Order: Ethiopia - Guji Pour Over & Bourbon Cardamum iced late
Price: $8
Positives: Great flavor, helpful staff, outdoor COVERED seating area
Negatives: I wish they could do the pour over iced
tldr: Mothership is a great place for coffee with amazing beans and a selection of more unusual, but still delicious, lattes. However, the shop is fairly small so maybe
Thoughts: Stop number four on the Vegas coffee, food, and dessert tour! Needing more coffee after our food and dessert, we decided to stop in to Mothership coffee. First off, I appreciate how Mothership does their theme of almost space-age coffee without overdoing it. There weren’t a whole bunch of tacky paper spaceships hanging all over the place. Instead they creatively named a few of their drinks, and their sign-up letter to be creatively science-fiction. It was tasteful and apparent, but not overdone
The interior of the shop is actually fairly small but they did offer some outdoor seating that was covered. I love sitting outside but in the temperatures that Vegas brings it is so nice that they covered the seating area, it made a world of difference. We settled on somewhat of our standard fare when we go to new coffee shops, consisting of a pour over and a cappuccino or latte. In this case we got a pour over of their Ethiopian Guji and Bourbon Cardamom latte and both of them were fantastic.
The pour over had a great depth and complexity, the beans weren’t over roasted, it didn’t taste burnt and it wasn’t so watery that the coffee had no real flavor. The latte was fantastic as well, it had definite notes of bourbon and cardamom in the drink without overpowering the espresso, since let’s be real that’s why I’m buying a latte. Nothing makes me crazier and than getting a latte or cappuccino and the flavor they add is all you taste.
The staff was super helpful in pointing out options and talking through the ways they make the drinks. Another highlight is that many of their syrups are housemade. This really makes a big difference when flavoring drinks because most commercially produced syrups are very sweet and don’t taste like what they are called.
The only thing I wish was different, and I soon discovered this was a trend in Vegas, is that they don’t do their pour-overs iced. They seemed willing to do it but they would make a standard pour over and then just dump the hot coffee over ice and end up just watering it down. It was a very odd experience because almost every coffee shop I have visited before does iced pour overs. Instead of your standard 350ml to 20g of coffee you do 150ml of ice and then 200ml of water to 20g of coffee and you brew the pour-over over the ice then dump the cooled coffee over a cup of ice. It’s how I make iced pour overs at home so again very weird that they didn’t do it here. But at least they were honest and told me they didn’t do it rather than just giving me just give me a watered down cup of coffee.
All in all I would highly recommend mothership as a place to go get coffee. It may not be the best place to sit for hours and work, or chat with people because of the size of the shop but it’s 100% an amazing place to just go get a cup of coffee and maybe a more out-of-this world flavored cappuccino or latte.
So far I’m sensing that Vegas has a pretty killer coffee culture!

This is a great place to grab a delicious cup of coffee! The staff is very helpful with those of us who arent coffee connoisseurs, in finding something for you. They have several pastries to choose from that look just as great as they taste! Its a small store but it has alot of buzz as it had a constant flow of happy people going in and out.

Probably the best matcha I have had in Las Vegas after my favorite LA matcha places. They also offer an oat milk as a milk alternative which is what I am always looking for at every coffee shop.

This coffee shop is so cute! Great staff and great coffee. If you go in, you HAVE to try a pastry. I love the vibe of the place, great for hanging out.

This place is amazing for a brilliant cup of coffee. Their pour overs are excellent and the latte styles are perfect with loads of coffee and cocoa flavor and minimal sugar. I come to Mothership every time I travel to Vegas/Henderson.

Another great it the coffee house that not only roasts its own coffee, it also bakes its own pastries. My favorite is the vegan cinnamon roll. I'm not sure how that's possible, but have them warm it up in the toaster oven. And then enjoy ANY of their excellent coffee drinks. No losing dishes or drinks here. #winning

Very friend staff who take the pandemic seriously! Enjoyed the blueberry matcha that was recommended to me a lot! And the ham pillows are delicious. 😊

taste of coffee and “homemade” syrups have changed for the worst. The coffee now tastes like AmPm coffee but for 4 times the price, why?

I would love to give a glowing 5-star review... and I would have had it not been for this morning when my macchiato was made. I looked and asked if it was my drink since it was just an espresso. The barista proceeded to say "oops, let me add milk to that". He asked if I had a preference - which I did not tho whole milk is the standard... he then just topped off the drink with leftover milk he had sitting around.
I'm all for conserving waste - but this is about having a specialty drink created. They have great beans, the have a great machine (a $20K+ Synesso Hydra) and Ive had absolutely wonderful drinks here the past several days. But the lack of appreciation for the art of specialty coffee makes today a little downer. I still prefer the coffee here over some of the other local roasters and will continue to come here when Im around... just hope they read this and take note. The temp & texture of that little dab of milk makes or breaks a drink like a macchiato. I'm looking forward to that perfect drink I've had here on other occasions.

We stopped in for a latte and were pleasantly surprised with the store. They offer vegan/GF pastries, but I'm sorry to say, we missed out. We're looking forward to our next visit to try some!
