If you crawl out of the woods of Yellowstone starving and desperate for food...... crawl on to Cooke City.
Worst trout I've ever had. Had to bring in my own drinks. Sour tomatoes in the salad. Waiter was clueless, never saw him after the "food" was served.
They charge $60 for 3 nasty frozen trout (saw the boxes by the outdoor bathroom that said "Idaho Trout") a salad that would fit in my hand and tomato soup straight from an old can.
Seriously the worst restaurant I've ever eaten at.

The lone server was overextended and under-friendly. We ordered tamales and a black and bleu steak salad. The tamales were average. The black beans that came with them were tasteless. You needed a magnifying glass to find the bleu cheese on the salad, and there wasn't more than 2 oz of steak. At the close of our meal, after waiting more than 10 minutes to pay the check, I finally had to get up and find the manager (who was clearly perturbed by my intrusion) to check me out.

The inside has the atmosphere you expect of a restaurant out in the middle of the country....lots of animals on the wall, not very well lit with bad country music playing. Waiter started off by telling us that they did not have half of the things on the menu which isn't the best start. Asked to use their bathroom to wash up before dinner and their bathroom was under renovation so had to go across the street to the general store. I had ordered the meatloaf and my gf ordered the mountain burrito. Her burrito wasn't half bad but you could tell both dishes had been in the microwave to heat them up. My meatloaf was pretty dry and came on a big piece of tomato and lettuce. It would be nice if it came with some kind of sides other than salad, soup or chips. It was $12 after all. Got the check and not once did I get a refill on my drink which is odd considering at that point there was only one other couple there. It may still be early in the season but I was not impressed to say the least.

On a trip to Yellowstone in late June, my dad and I woke up to a foot of snow and a complete power outage in Cooke City. We had no food and dismally drove out in search of sustenance. This little log cafe was the only place open, and it was our saving grace. The cabin was so warm, the service so welcoming and the food so wonderful! It will be a family favorite for sure!

This was the best food of our trip by far. The staff was very friendly, personable, and welcoming. We were surprised by the freshness of the food and generous portion sizes. We will definitely return on our next Yellowstone trip!

Must stop in on your way in or out of Yellowstone. Fantastic food, super staff, beyond charming, and you'll want to move into town to eat there every day. Stop in, you'll thank me.

Breakfast each morning at the Log Cabin was a special part of our family vacation! Such a cozy place with great food! The real treat was getting to know our waitress and her being genuinely interested in us! You were lucky to have her filling in and we were lucky to have her for a waitress!

This restaurant was the only place to eat in Cooke City or Silver Gate. Potentially the worst service I have every had, food was okay, but the service made it all awful. Our waitress was completely oblivious, husband got the wrong drink and wrong food, we did not complain because of how long it took in the first place. Got no utensils or napkins, had to ask. Shared with my 9 year old, no plate for her. $31 for the two meals, and the waitress asked if we wanted change back. So a $9 tip for this awfulness.

I've been here twice (three years apart), and been disappointed both times. The first time (Summer 2014), the special was halibut. It was small and overcooked to the point of being very dry. They also charged almost $40 for it. Bacon wrapped asparagus was great, but that's it.
Second time (Summer 2016), they brought out the wine, along with plastic cups to drink it out of. The party I was with ordered steaks cooked three different ways, and they all came out medium rare. They brought the salads out with the entrees as well. Not a well run kitchen or restaurant.
They need to hire a real chef, or at the very least cut their prices in half. My recommendation is to drive a few minutes up the road to Cooke City, where you'll find a lot more choices, and much better food.

Our server was attentive and nice. Ordered chili, way overpowered with extra beans... it was spicy on the plus side but not enjoyable due to the exorbitant amount of beans. Finished with the Meatloaf........ gross beyond your wildest imagination, the meat was rare!!!! Not how meatloaf is supposed to be served...... and it had a funky taste, could not eat it. I didn't say anything, your in the middle of no where, my wife had a simple grill cheese with tomato basil soup. The grill cheese sandwich was fine, the Tomato Basil was gross/nasty, overpowered with way to much Basil....... Tip Advisor rated so maybe this was a one off................. doubtful.
