General Mercantile

Of all the coffee shops I’ve been to in 6 countries, this is my favorite I’ve ever been to.

The Merc has a gourmet menu unlike any I’ve ever seen, and a truly unique environment, perfectly relevant to the old west. I am very impressed that after Ray handed the shop to Lindsey Barnes, that the environment and coffee are still true to the original owners’ vision.

The only thing I wish there was, was some WiFi.

I ALWAYS make a point to stop by the Merc and grab a Tall House Special when I am in town.

It's not one thing - it's the the whole package. The drinks are excellent - especially the Chai which is actually brewed, not made from a mix. The gifts and candy range from snarky call-backs to yout the high end pieces. If you want to spend an afternoon sipping a good drink in a booth while playing scrabble - this is really the best place.

Fantastic atmosphere. Lots of goofy things to look at and buy. The coffee is good, too. Definitely worth a stop if you're in Helena.

This is my go-to place for gifts—the perfect place to find something to let others know you’re thinking of them. It’s also such a cool space. I feel like I’m always exploring when I’m in there.

My daughter and I had fun browsing the store. I even got a little stocking stuffer for her without her realizing it. Got some great items for family that live in Utah.

This is a neat, fun little place to go. The shop is cool and espresso is superb! Definitely a a good place to check out and enjoy a latte and shop a bit.

Warm, hometown feel with plenty of nostalgic merchandise to look at while you wait for your individually made coffee.... If you want to know what Helena is all about, this is your place.

A wonderful, friendly, old fashioned vibe. An intimate atmosphere for get togethers with friends. The drinks and service is top notch! Includes a koi pond. Lots of fun novelties for sale.

Often so busy you won't find a place to sit, or the baristas will forget you ordered something. Cool selection of gifts, postcards, souvenirs, etc, and neat decor.
