Erin is nothing short of a master of her craft. I ordered a cake I could only describe as "fall vibes" for my elopement and she absolutely came through. The spiced vanilla cake was luscious and the fresh peach filling was divine. Her customer service was exceptional! She is an excellent communicator and very flexible. This was the most pleasant experience I've had with a bakery and I absolutely will be a returning customer. Thank you so much Erin!
We had our wedding cake made here and it was absolutely the best cake ever! It tasted soooo great and looked beautiful! Not to mention they have the best cake tasting with so many options! Erin gives great combo suggestions and answered all of our questions!
Stopped by this St. Joseph favorite recently and realized that in all my times coming here, I still hadn't left a review.
I've said it once and I'll say it again: Flour and Flower is one of the best bakeries in Minnesota, as well as one of the state's best kept secrets.
Last time I went, I got the Peach, Plum, & Apple Turnover, which was delicious and I can't recall the last time I had plum anything! The Dark Chocolate Lavender Shortbread is to die for, as is the Salted Rosemary Shortbread. If like me you can't choose, don't and get both! Honestly, you really can't go wrong. They also have an assortment of pies (matcha tea custard, anyone?), breads, cookies, pizzas (on pizza night -- Monday from 5 to 8:30 p.m.), flowers, and super cute merchandise. If I could live there I just might.
You can find parking to the right hand side of the building or there is easy to find street parking on College Ave and W Minnesota St.
Note: This is not a sit down place and you won't find seating.
The Most Important Note: Worried about Flour & Flower selling out before you get there (it happens!)? You can preorder food for pickup on their website.
If you're in the cities, I recommend taking a little day trip up to St. Joseph, looking at all the cute shops, grabbing brunch at Krewe, some baked goods from Flour and Flower for the ride home (if you can wait!), and ending the day with a stop at, in my opinion, the best cidery in the state, Milk & Honey Ciders. Feel free to check out my reviews of both!
Truly some of the best food I’ve found in the Midwest! When you walk in you’re surrounded by scrumptious looking baked goods, locally crafted gifts, and welcoming staff. After you’ve stocked up on several of their pastries/cookies make sure you order their sandwich of the day and soup. Their sandwiches are hands down the best in the area that feature pickled veg, great bread, and life changing flavors. I’m not joking. LIFE. CHANGING. FLAVORS. Stop in, don’t skimp on the gluten, and enjoy the best kept secret in St. Joe.
This place is worth a trip to St. Joseph, MN. The croissants are authentic. The vibe is great. The smell of yummy espresso…I went in on a Sunday morning and there were many customers ahead of me. It’s a small space, but so inviting and kitschy. I love it there.
A little bakery with delicious baguettes! I tried the lavendar latte and it was very good. There are a variety of baked goods including bags of cookies. They also sell dog treats which my dogs love. I highly recommend stopping here. It's very small so you get your drunk and treats to go.
If I could give 10 stars, I would! The staff is so nice and the place is soooo cute! Although I bought a few items, the cinnamon morning bun was my favorite! I took a chance and bought the dog treats for my extremely picky dog and he ate them! I will definitely be back :)
This is my favorite place in Saint Joseph. Walk inside this charming little alley bakery and you smell and gawk at all the beautiful pastries that Erin has made while we sleep. Warning, they are dangerously delicious and make your taste buds do flip flops!
Also, she has Sammies made with half of a fresh baguette either vegetarian or with meat. I always ask which one is best for the day. And she also has salads that are crunchy and colorful goodness. Oh, and the soup!
Update: May 29 2023 FINALLY got to get their pizzas. Wild. These things are works of art. Well seasoned and crisp. Dough was fantastic (goes without saying really because of their trade) the creole pizza was salty and garlic heaven. The spring pizza was polar opposite with fresh pea shoots and the burrata lightness. Lovely black spots on the pizza, if you don't like that eat your white pizza and be boring, THIS is pizza.
Super small spot so come early to maximize choice. I picked up a lot of cookies, snacks, cookies that I'll eat later and review. Just for now had the chicken salad sandwich. Delicious needless to say. Not too thick or thin on the dressing and the chicken wasn't dry. Perfect summertime lunch. Cinnamon roll that was airy and flaky, with a touch of cardamon. Very good, reminded me of a Swedish cardamon bun, almost croissant style.
Finally getting back to this. Tried The Cookie, damn near everything in one cookie, excellent. Their gf cookie with many seeds, not bad for being gf, I think also vegan as well? Pie crust cinnamon sticks are exactly what they would sound like. Crispy and cinnamony. The shortbread chocolate lavender was the only "meh" thing. Very delicate and chocolate was on the far back end,
A delightful pastry shop, slightly hidden off the main street, but worth seeking out. A pleasing assortment of classic pastries, an some with a new twist. My morning cinnamon bun was delicious, tender and flakey. Those in our group who got the blueberry or other fruity options were also delighted. The coffee was a choice of light or medium roast, and was great with the baked goods. Friendly customer care was perfect! I will be going back often!
