Strange Matter Coffee

One thing I always appreciate about a city is their ability to play host to quality coffee shops. I must say Strange Matter is the best Lansing and it’s surrounding areas has to offer. Unfortunately, they don’t really have to compete against much other than Blue Owl coffee, who doesn’t even roast their own beans. I usually come to strange matter to get a bag of their single origin beans and a fresh vegan donut. I am always impressed by the colorful and creative flavors of donut they have. I also love that they give you a complimentary cup of coffee with the purchase of a bag of beans. I haven’t had a reason to enjoy their large open seating area yet but, from the looks of it, there’s many seating options to either enjoy a book on your own, get some work done, or catch up with friends.

Every single time I order from strange matter I fall more in love. The staff is so kind and sweet. The bakers have consistently created new and exciting combinations of flavors and designs that continue to excite people that go there regularly. I live 40 miles away and I FREQUENTLY drive to Lansing JUST for donuts. They’ve also followed all local guidelines to keep people safe and are a very positive impact on the community.

I just love the atmosphere here, as well as the unique drink specials.

Although I don't usually eat the very fun-looking donuts, they are great to gaze at. The scones I have tried have all been excellent, and I am a bit picky 😂.

The quality of the coffee and tea beverages is also quite excellent. (Not too sweet... Natural flavors... Refined sensibilities in the recipes.)

Hands down the best donuts (that just happen to be vegan--I love them and I'm not vegan), most unique and delicious latte flavors, and wonderful atmosphere in the Greater Lansing area. This business provides not only superior product, but a space and community where I feel safe and welcome. I make extra effort to patronize businesses that share my personal values, and Strange Matter is all that to me and more. I'm a customer for life.

The staff at Strange Matter were great! They were friendly and quick! The latte and donut were delicious, and the atmosphere felt warm and friendly. If you want great coffee and lattes along with a delicious pastry, I promise this is the place for you!

What a gem of a place no matter which location you go to. Always delicious, delightful, and a great place for company. Normally I forget to take pictures until I've polished things off (it's that good), so attached are one of the rare pictures of things in tact and look how cute it is!

In addition to good coffee and an inviting atmosphere, the staff at Strange Matter are exception people and allies. They go above and beyond with good service, kindness, and intentionality to be welcoming. As someone with allergies, Strange Matter is the only coffee shop I have encountered that does not charge extra for non-dairy alternatives. Charging someone extra for what is essentially a disability is upsetting, and I am grateful that Strange Matter does not do this! They have lots of vegan and gluten free bakery options, which normalizes dietary diversity. Strange Matter is a gift to the Lansing community!

Stopped in from out of town to grab some coffees and doughnuts. Was looking for something local and different. Eli was super helpful and lovely, was able to offer perfect suggestions. The brown sugar cardamom latte was absolutely delicious, just what I was looking for. My two small nieces loved the doughnuts and the couple bites I could steal from them were super tasty. Service, staff, atmosphere, inclusivity 10/10. I wish we had something like this in Kalamazoo! Thank you so much Eli and Strange Matter.
