From the business
"Our family has been making maple syrup in Charlevoix since 1898, and all Harwood Gold products are sweetened only with pure maple syrup. We opened our first storefront in 2016, and it is half cafe, half store. The cafe features a farm-fresh, seasonal menu, as well as espresso drinks, fresh baked goods and smoothies, plus our hand meat pies both hot and frozen. Our menu includes vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options. The store side features all of the Harwood Gold maple syrup and made-with-maple products, with a tasting bar so you can try before you buy. All of our maple products are also available to purchase on our website."

Skip Starbucks and Coffee Beans of the world and hit this rustic style gem. Besides having quality coffee drinks the place has dozens of Michigan made products. The maple syrup variety tasting bar is free and fantastic. This isn't just a coffee stop. It is an experience.

Really enjoyed the free tasting bar of all the maple syrups and other goodies, however the barista was rude and while the chai latte was just okay, their latte just tasted like coffee with milk in it. I’ve had plenty of lattes and this one was a particularly disappointing one. Would go back for the syrups, not for the drinks.

Not impressed with the place at all. First time there my chai latte was ok and my daughter’s hot chocolate were absolutely awful. The second time the cold brew was colored water. The service was not any better. Both times I have been there the girls seemed to have an attitude. Will not go back. Plenty other places to enjoy a decent cup of joe without overpaying for mediocre coffee and service.

The hand pies are the best thing you will ever taste, the baristas are super friendly and helpful, and the coffee is delicious. I can't wait to be back in Charlevoix to experience even more of their menu. I'm hooked.

July 2021...The you-bake cherry pie was great. The 'fresh' chocolate croissant was stale and the chocolate was low-grade.
The apple pie was GREAT with the crust made with butter not lard. Salad, latte and grilled cheese were mediocre.

My wife and I ordered small caramel lattes with an extra shot of espresso. The milk wasn’t steamed long enough so both were warm to drink, but not hot enough. The barista didn’t build up any foam or froth in the milk so there was nothing to top off the drink. I was the only customer in the store so there really wasn’t a reason not to take her time and make them correctly. There are better options in Charlevoix, I suggest you find one.

The food and coffee is delicious. I would highly recommend. Counter service. Not very baby friendly when busy; solo locals taking up a table with an hour old coffee and their smartphone or computer. Distracted, but still very pleasant staff, got my ordered miscommunicated (asked for lamb, got delicious steak). Simply put, they need more small tables, and maybe a notice of one hour per local, haha.

We ordered full meals from the menu. The woman taking our order was not friendly or helpful and just seemed concerned with getting to the next person in line. I had questions about menu items and she didn't want to answer them. Wait was fairly long for simple meals and food was good, but not amazing. We also waited forever just for water and I had to go up about 15 min later to ask for it, at which point the woman asked me if I'd be ordering to eat in. She had no idea that she just took my order 15 min. ago. I appreciate the farm to table idea and I like to support local small businesses, but I think this place is best left to coffee and pastries and not full meal service.

Superb Aussie-style meat pies just like in Australia! My wife is Australian and says these are some of the best she’s ever had! Definitely a stop for our family any time we head through Charlevoix!

Pies are good, but the coffee barista is a slow dip $#it…or at least that’s how she made me feel after I complained taking 15 min to make one coffee. She ruined the whole experience.
