Lived around here a year, but somehow just made it over to Blue. Literally the best Sunday evening in memory, sitting alone at the back of the room, eating pumpkin soup and fresh bread, drinking red wine, and listening to two women making beautiful sounds. Excellent service- very mindful of respecting the music while still being attentive. REALLY tasty soup and wine. Artists- Sorcha Cribben-Merrill and Monique Barrett. Look them up.
Went to see a friend’s band play. Was a suggested donation of $20 - of which I had $5. They were on at 10, place was maybe half-capacity. Bartender after taking 20 minutes to get to me poured me a water and asked what I wanted - I told him water was fine (10 years sober didn’t want to spend $6 on a watered down cranberry juice) and tipped him $2. Fifteen minutes later he told me that they had a one drink-minimum and he was sorry but he’d have to ask me to leave. Been there maybe 20 times since they opened and that was the first I ever heard of that policy. Plus I paid $2 for a water and tossed money for the band - still thrown out of a bar for not drinking. I won’t be back, and I hope the music scene evolves to exclude this hole in the wall.
Don't speak if you are there. Stopped in for a drink. When talking to the bartender to correct a drink we were shushed. And told this was a quiet bar. Had to talk over the music to be heard. Very strange . We left.
Stumbled into this cool little spot while visiting Portland some friends. It was five of us and they quickly accommodated us. What I loved most is that there was no cover charge. We ordered a few beers and some food and enjoyed the night watching some locals kill the stage.
They do pass around a little basket for donations. You don’t have to give anything but it’s definitely greatly appreciated by the musicians.
They have different people playing each time so it’s pretty cool! Definitely worth stopping by here if you’re in the area.
Friendly ambiance. Vegan and vegetarian options available!
Great live music venue. No cover charge, but a suggested donation basket is sent around so it's nice to have some cash on you to throw in. Good selection of beer, wine, and liquor. Small food menu, but i have enjoyed everything I have had, definitely try out the meatballs! friendly bartenders and servers.
absolutely adore this spot :-) wonderful music and performances in a small and intimate venue with a fitting atmosphere, as well as great drinks and a lovely staff. i always have an enjoyable time there!
Blue is one of the most supportive live venues I've performed at. Even though it's donation, they do a very good job at communicating, musicians can't work for free. The menu is small, but there is a great rotation of specials so it doesn't get stale. There is a good selection of beer and wine, and they know how to steep a good cup of tea. The staff has always been helpful and good natured. It's also a great venue to watch live acts. They bring in a a good variety of bands and interesting events like naked Shakespeare. There is no parking, but on most nights, you can find on street parking within a 5-10 minute walk.
Nice atmosphere. Great live music. We didn't eat, but the guy next to us got nachos and they looked really good. Drinks were yummy. Prices very comparable.
Went to a see friend's jazz band. It's set up with tables facing the stage. Fairly small room, so intimate. Pretty casual; no pressure to order in a hurry, conducive to good listening enjoyment. Decent selection of beverages, limited but nice food menu. The focus is mainly on the musicians, and it's usually pass-the-hat, and Blue staff will remind you. Often multiple acts in an evening. I find it a nice place to see music and have a drink and a bite to eat while you're listening.
