Josie's Country Store & Cafe

Stopped here for breakfast only because it was on our way out of town, and man were we surprised. Looks like a very nice convenience store, but once you get seated it’s all restaurant. We waited a little bit for the food, but they advised us that it was because they were baking the biscuits for the biscuits and gravy. Once the food arrived it was SO WORTH the wait! Best biscuits and gravy I’ve had in years (and I’m from the Midwest!). French toast was great and my son had the corned beef hash that he really enjoyed. The owner went out of his way and gave us a small bag of rice to put a wet cell phone in after hearing we had an issue. Just a really nice place with really good breakfast food. Wish we had found it before we left town!

Busy, but was kindly greater by the wonderful and personalble owner, coffee was great and Willett whisky a nice option for late breakfast time drink. Hatch wings and Polynesian wings were delicious and quite large. Ceasars wrap pulled pork sand,Reubens, Philly all amazing, great tasty, fresh, eye appeal when served, all spot on A+, we got. To chat with Josie, and see photos of her beautiful puppies, and get sone history of how she has expanded to a 4 season serving area on a large decking area with removable walls, heaters, and comfortable seating, survived the covid shutdown and still has the most infectious smile and bubbly personality, everything about this visit makes one desire to cone back for more and confident to try new and different menu items. Very reasonable prices, you pay at the convenience store checkout, clean, establishment, dog friendly, if your dog is friendly that is. And made me start my day on the best note, leaving a smile on my face when I left. Great amazing wonderful worth the visit, hidden GEM. 100% A ++++. Thank you. See you there. :)

I loved my “Basic Breakfast”

I’m so confused as to how this place is well-reviewed! The service was slow and inattentive. (At one point during our endless wait for our food the waitress took one of our glasses to “refill” it then …just… didn’t come back with it?) When the food finally arrived it was somehow both burnt and cold at the same time?! (How?!) Plus during our extended stay here we watched some tables be cleaned with what smelled like bleach while others were never wiped and the crumbs were just brushed off by hand. I genuinely have never dined at a worse place and would not recommend it… just snag some frozen breakfast foods from a gas station and you'll get the same food and pay way less.

We really enjoyed our dinner tonight, Asian beef stir fry and Citrus herb chicken with brussel sprouts and mashed potatoes. Delicious. We sat outside on the deck. Beautiful evening.

Great staff and great food! I stopped here every day of the week I was in the area. The staff remembered me and made an effort to make me feel welcomed. They have an extensive menu with options for everyone. Everything I tasted was delicious. The country store has anything you can possibly need. I wish the place was closer to my home because I would definitely frequent it regularly.

Waited 40 minutes between getting drinks and one of two lunches. One hour wait for my daughter's lunch to arrive. Second time trying the place and it's the last time. Super long wait, even when not busy. Food was good, but not worth the long wait time. I told the man ringing us up that my daughter's meal was an hour wait and didn't taste good, still had to pay for it. Seriously, if it's nasty and you didn't eat it, you shouldn't have to pay for it. Shame, I think if they improve, I might try again. Ellsworth needs good eateries.

Best of Maine flight. Can’t get a better Beers on Tap anywhere close. Generous pours at great prices. Bissell, Foundation, Rising Tide, Allagash... and the meal was out of this world delicious. Super friendly staff! If you’re in Acadia, stop in Ellsworth for this place!

Amazing staff and the food is truly the star of the show! They knock it out of the park everytime!
