Blackbird

Visited for the first time yesterday. It was gorgeous outside so I needed a place with wifi and outdoor seating for a 2.5 hr social media marketing stint. I bought tea and paid for a piece of cake I wanted to take home. Though I took up a chair for a long time, I was never made to feel like I was a nuisance or had worn out my welcome. I got to do my work on fast wifi while sitting in the fresh air. It was great.

I had never been here before and wanted to try it this morning with my friend. I walked in and noticed only one customer dining in had on a mask. I walked up to the counter and asked for a menu. While I was looking I briefly pulled down my mask to whisper something to my friend and the barista told me to "please keep my mask on." While I absolutely respect this gesture and certainly did apologize and pulled my mask right back up it didn't make sense as no one that was dining in was eating, nor wearing masks. It felt discriminatory as we were also the only black customers in the cafe.

I actually believe the other white customers sitting by the window didn't have any masks on at all, as they were not eating and didn't have any masks in sight. I could be wrong absolutely, but the attitude prior from this barista seemed brash also when he seemed impatient with us before showing us the menus. I 100% enforce the mask law and will abide, but this didn't feel right.

Blackbird is an amazing coffee shop. I have spent a lot of time here. I try to take my son every Sunday. We can sit and play chess, draw, or just talk with the employees. The staff is amazing and is a major reason I keep coming back. The food is always delicious....especially when they have African stew. My only complaint is that I am not a millionaire and cannot spend every day here buying amazing food and coffee. I'm working on that though.

This has been a go to place in Topeka for me for 5 years now, and I am giving it 5 stars only based on food and beers. The food has always had a consistent good quality and they have always had a very good microbrew selection of beer.

My husband and I drove through Topeka looking for a healthy place to have meat free breakfast options. Blackbird had several menu items for us. Dani, the manager made the veggie quiche herself and it was delicious. As first time guests Dani welcomed us warmly and assured everything was just as we ordered. We highly recommend Blackbirds.

Relaxing environment with friendly baristas, good music and delicious coffee. Exactly what I look for in a coffee house. Haven't had their food yet and they also serve beer, though I can't imagine why that would hurt their rating.

I have been used to going to Starbucks for a very long time but while I was at the UPS store today I decided to drop into this business and check out their mochas by far they have the best mochas. Starbucks can't hold a candle to this place

Everything you want from a coffee shop. Good coffee, relaxing atmosphere, nice music that is at a good volume. The location is a little poor though, I wish it was in Minnesota so I could make it a regular place for me. I guess I just have to be jealous of the good folks of Topeka for a while.

This is my favorite coffee shop in town! The coffee is great, the baristas are nice, the music is good, and omg. The Reuben. I'm addicted to the Reuben sandwich here.
