The staff are amazing and knowledgeable about their job and the variety of ways to make coffee. The atmosphere is casual and outdoor seating is available. I've never had a bad experience and enjoy going to Hopscotch.

I don't think I can say enough positive things about Hopscotch. I have been going there for the last three years of my undergraduate experience, and in every category they are far and away the best, and my favorite, coffeeshop in town. The staff is not only pleasant, but incredibly genial and hospitable. I have had really engaging conversations with some, and even positive experiences in passing as I order. I've come to learn several of the baristas names, and since my first time there I have been genuinely welcomed, even when my own disposition was somber or despondent. The drinks have always been my favorite in town. The drip coffee has a vibrant, never burnt taste. I actually didn't even enjoy coffee when I first started coming here, but Hopscotch has shown me the light. Their iced teas are perfect for hot summer days, and the chai boosts even the coldest late nights. There have been several times when I have asked the barista to surprise me, or I have tried their new seasonal drink, and I begin to order that drink as a part of my regular rotation of beverages.
The are outlets available for almost every seat in the building, a rare amenity for most of the coffeeshops in bloomington. Finally, the location and ambiance of the shop is decidedly and undoubtedly the best in the entire town. The location on the b-line offers a quiet and rejeuvenating respite from whatever work might have brought you in. A short walk on the b-line is ideal for when you are meeting with someone and needing recreation in the midst of your conversation. It also serves as a picturesque view to inspire whatever you may be doing. One of my favorite things has been sitting out on the patio while it rains. The raindrops hitting the metal roof creates the most soothing tones to sit and reflect to. Within the store itself, there is a fashionable and contemporary style, but none of it comes off as hostile or unfriendly. The store is cozy and comforting, offering a casual atmosphere to enjoy your drinks and pastries. Even down to the music that they play, this is a coffeeshop meant to welcome you in, away from the busyness of campus or the downtown, and offer you the greatest respite that Bloomington has to offer. This coffeeshop is hallowed ground for me, and I am very thankful that I was able to enjoy it during my time in Bloomington.

Have been into hopscotch three times over the course of two years. I just don't feel welcome. I cannot put my finger on it but there is something about the vibe from the time I open the door to my completed order...Maybe I've aged out as a 50 something? Regardless, less than an inclusive feeling up front. As far as coffee or tea from hopscotch: Excellent.
Response to owner: "Every day we welcome and serve all ages and types of people." I agree with the "serve," part, its the "welcome" experience that needs closer observation. Observe how it goes for customers throughout the front counter process. That would be one specific way in finding what I have written about. Hope that method can be useful. Maybe if the experience improves e.g, I feel welcomed, I can up my visits per year. Feeling welcome in any environment is part of revisiting, right?

Hopscotch is my favorite coffee shop!! 10/10 Would recommend you come and check it out! My favorite drink is the Golden Milk Latte (with the espresso, it has turmeric in it!) Their Pour overs are divine and I recommend you buy some of their coffee!

The atmosphere is nice, but the drinks are ridiculously expensive for what they are. There’s no easily accessible parking, and the best way to get there is by walking on the b-line. Regular iced coffee is 80% ice and flavorless coffee that makes you think you’re drinking some sort of tea. They charged us an extra dollar just for the vanilla flavoring. Will not be returning.

Oh, Hopscotch. I love your amazing coffee and chai, I just wish you had more seating room for people! Seriously, though, their coffee is amazing - and in the summer, try the Thai iced coffee, it's the best. Their baked goods are great too - I love their lemon bars. This is definitely my favorite coffee place in Bloomington! (Now if only they'd make it even larger...)

Don't know much about coffee, so can't comment on the quality of beverages available, but I love the place! I come here to work all the time, there are lots of seats, especially when it's warm outside when you can sit on the deck. For people who drive, there's also plenty of parking. Only problem is that everything here is pricey. Probably the most expensive coffee shop in Bloomington (but see first line of review). Hence the 4 stars.

I moved to Bloomington in the fall of 2015 and happened upon Hopscotch my first full day in town. I was accustomed to high quality coffee through my travels and own personal endeavors, and had hoped that the sleek, artistic facade of Hopscotch would contribute to an equally polished cup of coffee. This was not the case. I have frequented this store since my arrival, and time after time the coffee is only alright. Having given this shop multiple opportunities to wow me, my final verdict is in.
The pour overs are almost always under-extracted.
The espresso for lattes is almost always over extracted and bitter.
This shop's saving grace is that the drip is inexpensive and alright.
If they have a single origin espresso available, give it a shot (I certainly was impressed). Otherwise, don't expect specialty coffee quality like you would find in Columbus (OH), Nashville (TN), or Denver (CO) from this shop.

Fresh-roasted coffee made on the premises. Great, locally-owned coffee place. Nice break when walking or riding on the B-Line Trail. Tons better than Starbucks.
Only downside is that students park themselves here for hours because of the free Wi-Fi, so seating is an issue. They might encourage European seating whereby you don't own the whole table, only the seat you're sitting in. It also fosters community.

Simply the best! My husband and I had our first date here years ago, and we still have a weekly date here! Whenever we travel, we realize how good we have it with the quality of coffee so close by. Can't be beat!
