What a great place. Music is loud enough where you can’t hear the conversation next to you, but low enough where you could still have a conversation with the person sitting with you. Everybody told me how good the burger was but until I actually got to eat it I didn’t quite understand it. They say you should get bacon, but they don’t give you bacon. They give you a super thick piece of pork belly cooked to perfection in pepper.
This will be a must stop place for me anytime I come to the city.

Known for some delicious hamburgers, Au Cheval provides a filling and tasty meal. While there is always a wait to enter, even when going in the middle of the afternoon, it is worth the wait (if it's less than an hour). Would recommend also splitting the fries since it is quite hefty.
The staff are VERY friendly and jovial, and if you aren't too full from the burger, I hear the Millefeuille is quite a treat.

Stopped in for lunch, although it was crowded we were seated at the bar almost immediately.
Our waitress was nice and informative. She encouraged us to try more than the burgers which they are known for and I see why. The burgers are top notch. I tried the chicken, loaded fries and a classic burger with bacon.

Definitely one of the best burgers in the city. It had been years since I've been here and it's great to know they have maintained their quality over the years. Seriously delicious and such an efficient kitchen operation. Great seats at the bar.

These guys crush it. What an amazing operation.
Forget what you may think about the world being "short staffed", as there were bodies everywhere...all on same page. We needed nothing. Fast and efficient.
We had the fried chicken, bologna sandwich and mornay covered fries. Bring your appetite.
Well curated beer list and cocktails too.
Kudos to those who run this place. "It's hard work to make it look this easy".

Been living in Chicago for over seven years, and this was my first Au Cheval experience. Definitely worth the hype! Was fortunate to only have a wait time under ten minutes at 3pm on a weekday 🙏 We sat right at the middle of the bar and got to see where all the magic happens. The peppered bacon was almost like pork belly with how tender some pieces were. Burger was on point, as well, but the highlight was asking one of the cooks, Jeff, about the chicken he was prepping for another patron. It looked BANGIN, so I asked if he thought it was good. Without hesitation he answered yes then proceeded to make me and my friend a half order. Thanks, Jeff! Dudes next to us work/live in the area and said they come in often. Told us the bologna sandwich was a must try, and Jeff confirmed adding, "It's the best thing on the menu." Was too stuffed after our burgers, fries, plate of bacon, and additional chicken to crush one there, so placed an order to go. Ate it the second I got home 😅, and I gotta say it's arguably better than the burger (which again, was fantastic)! Will be back without a doubt 💯

Worth the wait to have the best 🍔 in Chicago. Definitely try the roasted bone marrow. Great customer services and great foods.
(P/s: they don't take reservation)

Extremely busy, we waited 2 hours, but wjen someone tells you It's going to be the BEST burger you'll ever have you listen. And its worth it. Furthermore, the staff are amazing. Our waitress was thoughtful and sweet. They brought our bride a complementary dessert which was incredible.

We went on a Thursday afternoon, line was out the door. We were lucky enough to get two seats up at the bar, facing the cooks. Watching these guys and the efficiency of their work, makes you really appreciate what goes into them putting food on the table. They had a very large selection of tap beers, tried two different varieties, both were cold and fantastic. We got the single burger (The single has two patties, the double has three... go figure) and the fries. The food arrived within about 5-6 minutes and was great. Clean the plate great. The staff was friendly, attentive and very polite. For a place this busy, it was a nice surprise. Can't wait to return!

Was nervous reading the reviews about long lines - went there right at 11am on a Tuesday and luckily was able to be seated at a booth immediately. Small place so I can see why normally there would be a wait. When we left at 1230, a queue outside had formed. Highly recommend to come right at opening time during a weekday if you can.
Star was definitely the bone marrow. Absolutely amazing and came with thick toast and the best savory jam. The single is plenty of burger for one person - partner loved it, I thought it was on the too salty side and wished for other toppings like lettuce tomato. A great burger for sure but actually wouldn’t say it’s the best imo. Fried bologna sandwich is an interesting dish but a little too greasy (lots of oil dripping down) and too saucy. Fries were great and came with an aioli.
I’d say for a first visit, stick to bone marrow and a single. You’ll feel your arteries clogging immediately after eating but it’s worth a visit here if you can get seated quickly. Service A+++
