Delicious burgers and great service!

They don't take reservations so expect to wait (you can leave your cell # and they will text when your table is ready). We arrived at 10:45 on Friday (open at 11) and walked in at 10:50 and we're seated. By 11:10 all the seats were full and they were telling people 60-90 minutes for a table.

The food is worth the wait - burgers cooked to perfection, fries are crispy with perfect amount of salt. Great beer selection as well. We added a side of bacon - highly recommend this and I added an egg to my burger.

The service was top notch also - everyone was friendly and attentive.

When my best friend/cousin visited me in Chicago, one of the places she wanted to try was Au Cheval. Knowing it can be very busy, we went around 3pm, was on the wait list for about 30 minutes, and had our table. (If you are sitting at the bar, you will be seated more quickly!) We really enjoyed the busy & quirky ambience and our food (single cheeseburger with fried egg & crispy fries🍔🍳), but the highlight of the day was being offered a free sample of general jane’s honey-fried chicken 🥰! Needless to say, staff members were very kind and accommodating — it seemed like they genuinely wanted my cousin to have a great dining experience. I’m planning to go back to try other menus like the bologna sandwich and roasted bone marrow — will share updates then 👍

I will preface this by saying i’m a huge burger person. I’ve heard very great things about Au Cheval. Visited the restaurant for the first time during the weekday, with no wait for a table. The burger and fries were very good and we felt happy when leaving. Presentation was nice and the overall restaurant gives a lively personality. Was a bit pricey but we’ll worth it. Fries can definitely be shared between two people. If you’re ever in the city, I would highly recommend.

Delicious! Had their signature single cheeseburger (which has two patties) with an egg and two gigantic slabs of bacon on it. I loved that it wasn’t too salty, which tends to happen all the time with restaurant burgers these days. The fries were so good too, especially the aioli dip! We got there before 5 so we didn’t have to wait, but you should come ready to wait a while for seats. The food is extremely filling and quite heavy, but still delicious!

The name really speaks for itself, very famous burger spot and a must if you are in Chicago. Place is ridiculously busy, the don't reservations ahead so best way is to go early and put your name on the list.. waiting times are usually 2 to 4 hours so make plans accordingly. Plenty of bars around to kill that time and staying hungry for this burger is advised. Burger itself was delicious, order with the egg and bacon to make the best out of the experience, you will not regret it. There is a sandwich available which is good but if you are a burger lover just go for that tasty burger.

Dimly lit spot for flavorful burgers. I ordered the go-to meal, which is a single cheeseburger (2 patties) with the recommended add-ons of egg and bacon. Really liked the meal — the meat was well cooked and the bacon especially elevated the experience. Most importantly, the staff here was super friendly. Really packed though, even on a Wednesday evening, so the earlier you arrive, the better.

Went during a weekday lunch and the wait was less than 15 minutes. The space is very small and cozy, and the food was definitely outstanding.

🦴 The bone marrow is very flavorful and juicy, combined with the toast is amazing.

🍔 Definitely add egg and bacon to the burger. The bacon is thick and not dry, and the combination is so satisfying overall.

Au Cheval has long been hailed as the THE burger crown royal without much competition, so if you took the time to wait in line, will the joint exceed your expectations?

So first, besides insanely awesome burgers, they offer other dishes for those who crave something different from finger-licking delicious fried chicken to matzo ball soup, fantastic kale salad and so much more.

For me tho, the burger is a must have. The double cheeseburger actually is served with 3 patties and you can add bacon and runny egg to bring your experience to a whole new level.

If you didn’t want to wait a long time then lunch is my recommendation but no matter how long the wait is, Au Cheval is in a league of its own, at least when it comes to their burgers.

Enjoy!

100% this place is worth the wait. We've had great food in Chicago but nothing beats this spot. My boyfriend and I enjoyed the single burger, fries, bone marrow, fried chicken, and pickles....I can't say much other than it's amazing and it's an explosion of flavor in your mouth. Thank you to the great staff of Au Chevel for the most delicious dinner ❤️
