The store has a great selection; however I ordered a smoothie that was quite disappointing for the price. The woman handed it to me and said verbatim “oops, I put too much almond milk in it” based on her observation of the very watery consistency. To my surprise, she did not offer to remake it after she said this. I was in a rush and did not have the time to wait another 10 minutes for a new one anyway.

This is a must visit place if you are in Kauai and looking to preparing your own food. They had a good mix of local and mainland groceries with fresh fruits and veggies

Loved the salad bar and smoothies. Some very cool ingredients. A really nice healthy food break from some of the heavier traditional Hawaiian meals we had been having.

Papayas is one of the only safe places to get food in Kauai for me--organic, clean food. We love going there for their produce, their Health and Beauty department is so nice...and the staff are helpful and in a good mood every time.

Found all products that we normally find at whole foods. Similar prices. Good gluten free selection. Staff members are very polite. Love the laid back lifestyle of the island.

They had a great selection of local and natural products. We were able to find "earths best" baby formula while on vacation. Price compaired to off island prices, but glad they had it. Well be back for more baby supplies next week.

Papaya’s is a very valuable resource for both locals and visitors to Kauai. If you’re used to shopping in health food stores (anything from Whole Foods to your local organic grocers) then you’ll want to check out Papaya’s. The nearby Foodland has a small designated health-food section, but Papaya’s blows this away. Whether you (like me) forgot your razor and want to pick up a Preserve recycled razor, or decide (like me) that you really need deodorant on Kauai and want something non-toxic and eco-friendly, then stop at Papaya’s. You can pick up anything from limes to go with your Koloa rum, bulk macadamia nuts or trail mix for your hike, decent grass-fed cheese (the selection in Foodland is poor), gluten-free items, or meals to cook at home. They also stock a lot of local products (and produce, like my limes) such as organic bread from the Passion Bakery, very affordable local honey, and proper grass-fed eggs. Prices are also good – for example, a 12 oz. jar of Hanalei honey cost only $5.39, and 8 oz. of organic cheddar was on sale for $5.99.
I’m giving them 5/5 green stars for social and environmental impact. It’s a pillar of the community (the mayor even proclaimed June 6th as the annual Papaya’s Market day!) that stocks and supports products from a lot of local farms and business. It’s a woman-owned, family-run business that’s a member of the Independent Natural Food Retailer’s Association (like Down to Earth on Oahu and Maui, or Bi-Rite in San Francisco) who’s core values are to encourage a healthy and sustainable lifestyles with integrity and transparency. In the store, the staff creates a very friendly and inclusive atmosphere. Of course the green-star rating is largely down to their product section – and, having reviewed many products for social and environmental impact, I’d say that they stock some of the most responsible products available. There are also a number of farmers markets on Kauai, but if you need to visit a store, Papaya’s is a much better option than Foodland or Safeway. Plus they give you a 15 cent discount for bringing your own bag – even better than Whole Foods!

We're currently on vacation on Kauai, and my lactose-sensitive 9month old supplements with a certain formula and Papaya's stocks it! We could probably make it home on what we have, but better safe than sorry so I set out to find it. It's hard enough to find on the mainland, so I was almost certain it was going to be finding a needle in a haystack here but I lucked out at Papaya's!

Thank you, Papaya's! So awesome! Papaya's has a lot of choices for healthy food, yummy smoothies - the Green Hulk is my favorite - yummy treats like the organic haupia and a really knowledgeable, helpful, caring staff. They always go out of the way to answer my questions or look into something for me. I love coming here, always so warm and welcoming.
