The Coffee Shack

Came for the views and stayed for the food. Parking can be a bit hairy (right off the highway). It was quite busy for a Thursday morning, but they have a convenient electronic reservation system.

The breakfast we had here was a good start to the day. The coffee was quite good as well. The views from the restaurant were amazing. We wished we had time to dine in and get the items on the specials board.

This review is based off of the two different days that we had breakfast here while on a recent trip.

-First time visiting was amazing 10/10. The food is amazing. The fried egg sandwich is what I had(with the onion dill bread).. so delicious!! The waiter was great. Very friendly from start to finish.

-Second time visiting the food again was amazing. Not one let down when it came to our meals(there were 4 of us).
The waiter was more neutral/not as friendly as the last guy. No biggie at first. But then it came time to pay. We asked to have the bill split(was not an issue at all the first time we ate there!!) and he replies we have to take it up to the girl at the register(not at all what we had to do the first time)… my husband takes the bill to the front and marks on it what was our food that way it’s easy to split. The lady accidentally leaves off part of our meal so my husband mentions it and she immediately makes a rude comment about him not telling her(it was clearly marked). You could tell she was upset that our waiter made us come to her and that she was having trouble even splitting it. The whole time a long line is forming at the door so I’m sure that was flustering her.

I do recommend eating here and would again if we ever return, but I just think things could’ve gone a little smoother and people could’ve been a bit nicer when it’s a completely normal request to have a ticket split.

Hands down best breakfast on the big island. The food is fresh and the atmosphere and views are BREATHTAKING. Everyone is so friendly and welcoming. It feels like you are in a tree house overlooking a tropical forest and the ocean.

Such a great experience. It’s a very small place but the food that they put out is so delicious! My in-laws knew about this place since they’ve been here before and I have to say that it did not disappoint. Gorgeous views paired with delicious food. You have to stop here if you can. I can’t wait to go back.

Definitely a MUST stop - if only for the view from their balcony! They have plenty of vegan option for the latte (macadamia, oat, soy, and another one), and vegetarian options. we ordered a vegetarian frittata and Hawaiian French toast with pineapple and Macadamia nuts and carrots, delicious and worth trying. They have pastries and pies as well.

Yummy Ono eggs Benedict!! We went around 8:30 on a Saturday and the wait was only 10 minutes and we got an amazing table on the outdoor patio with breathtaking views! Only reason I’m giving this 4/5 instead of 5/5 is because the espresso machine was broken (and the coffee we did order was very very weak) and our server wasn’t very friendly. Overall great time though and I would recommend to a friend!

This restaurant is one of my favorite restaurants in Kona. The taste and price of the food is reasonable, and the view is great! It is such a beautiful and wonderful experience to have a nice meal with family or friends with watching together the beautiful Hawaii scenery. This is a small restaurant and you may need to wait for 30-40 minutes (sometime longer than that) to be seated. If you don't like to wait, probably you need to consider to be there asap after they open. I highly recommend this restaurant if you never have been here before.

We love this place. It was our time first in Hawaii and ate breakfast here. The food was great, beautiful scenery and friendly services.

Beautiful, beautiful view and this is the place to come if you like thick cut bacon. Good food with a high up view of the island.
