We liked the tequeños and arepas; but not the coffee. Everything else was good. I liked the decoration.

Update from 11/13/22 at the bottom.
Original review:
This cafe was amazing to experience from start to finish. Upon entering you are greeted to a cozy space with a coffee bar in the back area. We were served by the owner herself and she was just lovely and incredibly knowledgeable. After speaking to her I could tell that every aspect of the cafe is a part of her vision from the cafe's name to the food with coffee pairings. The experience felt truly personal in a way that elevates the cafe experience.
As for food we tried three different arepas. They're pretty large so just keep that in mind. Three ended up being the perfect amount for the two of us. The star of the show was the blt arepa. Though they were all great in different ways.
For drinks I had a ristretto, which was amazingly dialed in. It was rich, thick, and chocolatey. Probably the best ristretto I've ever had. My partner has an affogato with house made ice cream. What I got to try of it was excellent.
All in all this place was lovely all around and I will absolutely be coming back. Might end up making it my go to cafe (if I wake up early enough). Thank you for the lovely lunch.
UPDATE: 11/13/22 - Since the move to the new building the service has not been friendly. I understand being understaffed but I have just felt a negative attitude from the staff every time I've come. This last time we were trying to meet up with friends who were already seated and the employee we talked to refused to help us and assumed we were lying.
On a smaller note the coffee quality seems to have dropped a bit since the move as well. Food is still good but not good enough to warrant dealing with the negativity here.
Also, at the new space you cannot walk into the building and find a seat so no matter when you arrive there will always be a wait. I think I'm done trying at this new version of Troupial. It's just not a friendly environment. I hope it improves.

This place is a hidden gem. The service is warm and personable and the food and drinks are excellent. Wonderful ambiance and the choice of music (Lena Horn, Nina Simone). All in all, this is a place to fall in love with.

Great coffee, delicious food and refreshing juices. No take away cups for coffee, but they'll happily fill your personal to go cup or sell you a reusable cup that you can bring back for a discount. Perfect way to start the day!

Really cannot say enough good things about Troupial. It’s a vibe! The interior is super charming and comfortable in an old victorian house. The staff feels like old friends, even if it’s your first time. The food is delicious, authentic, and you can taste the freshness of the ingredients. I love enjoying the various coffee drinks paired with breakfast dishes. Awesome baked goods and the arepas are the best in Savannah. Thanks Troupial, y’all are the best ❤️

My initial experience with Trupial was at the farmer's marler in Savanah. When the owner and matriarch made racial slurs at me (a Persian) and my African American Friend.
Despite this experience, after hearing nice reviews, I decided to take my friends to this restaurant, much to my dismay.
We walked in with a party of six, two of which were children under eight. The immediate desire to not serve was palpable. The restaurant was nearly empty but two female staff, obviously children of the owners, simply deduced from their pompous arrogant, and rude behavior approached us with immediate disdain for service. Although the restaurant was empty, these female hostesses refused to seat us at any of the empty tables. After significant back and forth they called on the manager, obviously their brother, who also with an arrogant attitude agreed to seat us at two different tables in the corner of the restaurant.
The service was rude and condescending. The female staff constantly walked by us rolling their eyes. The coffee was lukewarm, the cocktails were nothing but sugar water, and after a cup of water, we were told that we can not have more water. Having traveled across Vnezualena, the food was a disgrace to the culture. A chicken salad in a store-bought arepa was the “Reina” arepa. The food was mediocre at best, but the horrendous service by the children of the ower was what was unbearable.
When the bill came we were deceived once again. We were asked to leave a tip, even though 20% was already included. We were not given an itemized receipt until after we had paid, rather the waiter showed a screen with a total and a 20% tip already selected. Deceived us into leaving a $120 tip on a $150 check. What kind of a restaurant includes a 20% tip by default for a party of 4, plus 2 children, and makes no mention of it?
As we were leaving one of our children asked for a cup of water. We asked the female server for water, and she said she needs to ask her manager. She returned and said, “sorry I can’t give you a cup of water”. Unreal!
I wouldn’t send my dog here for the food. An absolute disgrace to the culture and the hospitality of Savannah. Avoid this place like the plague.

This place is awesome, food is fresh, cornmeal is locally baked, all delicious. I also loved that you have an option to pick a good and a healthy food for kids/toddlers. I will definitely come again for breakfast. Thank you so much.
