Hofer's Bakery and Cafe

Tasty Rueben and Philly steak sandwiches for lunch. Philly was one of the best ever. Oktoberfest amber was pretty good, although I’m not a beer drinker. It was smooth, deep & strong flavors. Pastry items took home were pretty good, get the cream puffs & eclairs. Cream puff has a light & fluffy cream, not custard. The eclair has the custard.

YUM! Went for breakfast and it was delicious. The dining room (inside) is small and there were 2 servers busting their butts, and doing a great job to feed everyone. We were a party of 4 & had the Mountain Climber's Breakfast, Belgian Waffle, Ham & Cheese Omelet and Pregel & Lox - we all enjoyed our breakfast.
GO EARLY! We arrived a little after 9 and were seated right away. When we left a little after 10 the wait line was out the front door.
They had a picture of their current special, their famous chicken salad on a fresh baked croissant, that looked so good. They don't serve it during breakfast though. We will plan to go to Hofer's for lunch during our next trip to Helen to get their famous chicken salad croissant

This review is regarding service as we never got to eat here. All the wonderful reviews sent us here, as well as one of the menu items I wasn't able to locate at other establishments in Helen. I hoped to celebrate my birthday here, and per their google listing, they were to be open until 5pm on a Monday. That was misleading. We arrived at 3pm and were told they stopped serving at 2:30. So, we went elsewhere. Figured we would give it another shot for breakfast and arrived at 10am. The line was long, but we waited for 20 minutes in line watching the 2 employees at the bakery counter serve a couple of customers. One customer came in asking about an item, and the employee appeared to be writing the order down until the customer asked another question. To which the employee directed them to a photo about the item. The employee then commented out loud, but under their breath, that she thought the customer knew what they wanted and was disgruntled she had to direct them to a small photo hidden by another sign. As our place in line was closer to be seated, we(2 adults and a 7 yr old) were 2nd to be seated, behind one single guest. After 20 minutes in line, with 3 other sets of guests behind us in line waiting to be seated, it was then, the waitress told us the guest in front of us was to be their last guest to be serviced. She referred to a sign that we clearly did not see, nor did the other guests behind us, that said cafe closed. So, 2 employees, not very busy for 20 minutes, saw all of us in line knowing we were waiting to be seated, and never said anything. The wait staff that were seating the next guests in line, not once said anything, yet knew who they were seating last. I understand if they can't accommodate more guests, and would have gladly purchased bakery items and went on my way had any employee told us no more guests after the last man, BEFORE we stood for 20 minutes. To just let 10 people stand there waiting to be seated for breakfast, is not good service. I can't give any insight on any of their food or bakery items, because the sheer lack of communication was sad and we left rather quickly to find a meal elsewhere before heading home. Their service, it did not stand up to the review hype.

Fantastic! There will be a wait because it’s small. The hostess, Andi, was amazingly friendly and efficient. We figured out what we wanted before we got our table so it seemed amazingly fast to get our food. Food was very tasty and a generous but not ridiculous portion. We ended up coming back for coffee and a treat mid day and Andi remembered my name and even took our order when it was closing time. We went back the next day for just a bakery item and the lady at the register gave us tips on the best way to enjoy the beehive cake we were considering. Definitely would come back.

The French toast was incredible. My husband had a Belgium waffle with eggs and sausage. He cleaned his plate. Our waitress went above and beyond and was super sweet. It has a great family friendly atmosphere, and we left with a huge bag of pastries to take home.

We came to Helen knowing nothing about it other than it is a great destination point, so I googled restaurants in the area. This was the first to pop up so we decided to try it.

There was a bit of a wait when we arrived, but it was worth it! I ordered the bacon onion hash and my husband ordered the farmer's breakfast with the pork chop, and we were both very pleased! The inside store was very nice and had a nice selection of pastries and deli assortments.

Overall, great experience!

The best food we had in Helen, which is saying a lot! Everywhere we ate in Helen was amazing, but I’ll probably be dreaming about this place. Out breakfast was absolutely delicious and so fresh, and the service was incredible. I wish I could have sampled half the bakery too because everything looked so delicious!

We left home 5 am and drove 9.5 hrs for our mother daughter getaway. Our destination? Hofer’s of Helen. We called ahead. They close at 5 pm. When we entered at 2:40 we were told the cafe closed at 2:30
I double checked the website. The website said they close the cafe at 3 which, by both counts we were here on time.

How disheartening and very disappointing. The next two days while we are here Hofers is closed.

Ralph Hofer, you failed big time. We are going to Bodensee instead and we will NEVER EVER BE BACK

This is the second time eating at Hofer's and once again, our experience was great! The food was fresh and super tasty. Our waitress was Adriana (as memory serves) and she absolutely nailed it! One of the best places in Helen. Will definitely go back.
