Hofer's Bakery and Cafe

Overpriced and overrated. The sacher cake had nothing to do with the real sacher (we really liked the apricot jam in it, though) and the “black forest” cheesecake was basically just a cream with some jam kind of thing on top. Both were way TOO sweet. Would not recommend.

The best food and the best service. Very quick and very good! Get here early though! Opens at 8, and the line usually starts at 7:30!

If you wanna dine in, get there before they open and be prepared to wait in line- it's worth it. If you just want the bakery/deli, you can go right in with no wait. Great service, great food. Try the corned beef hash and ask for it *crispy*

✅ Recommend: Bratwurste (Bratwurst) - a bit too salty for me but overall a good-taste plate!
❌ Cream puff: bought at the bakery - For a $6.64 cream puff, it's a disappointment. It was expensive yet tasted greasy and not tasty at all.
📝 Note: The staff was friendly. Yet need a long wait. Considering the price, service, and the food, it was okay level.

We arrived around 11 am. We patiently waited in line for 45 minutes to be seated. When we finally were seated, we were told they were not serving lunch yet( at 11 :45) It would be another 45 minutes because they had to change the kitchen over. The people in line behind us were still waiting even though there were tables available. The waitress was extremely rude in telling us that we had to order breakfast. We specifically went there for lunch at lunch time but no lunch is served. Then 2 rather rude black men came and basically told us we would have to wait for 45 minutes for lunch or leave. I have never in my life been treated this bad at a restaurant. What a way to ruin my last impression of Helen GA before heading home. There was no sign or communication of any kind that we wouldn't be able to order lunch at lunch time. I definitely would not go to eat there. We did buy 1 piece of apple strudel, 1 doughnut, 1 small cheesecake cup, 2 apple fritter and 1 pretzel for $30. Way overpriced for what we got. Shame on you Hofer's bakery! Also nothing in the bakery had prices. After looking at the receipt, I know why. $6 for a very thin slice of apple strudel is beyond ridiculous!

They absolutely were NOT polite! We should have been told that you were only serving breakfast BEFORE WE WAITED IN LINE FOR 45 MINUTES! THEN TO BE TOLD WE HAD TO WAIT ANOTHER 45 MINUTES FOR YOU TO CHANGE OVER THR KITCHEN. GET SOME SIGNS THAT TELL PEOPLE SO THEY WON'T WASTE TIME. THE ITEMS WE BOUGHT WERE NOT VERY GOOD AND DEFINITELY NOT WORTH WHAT WE WERE CHARGED. PEOPLE HAVE A RIGHT TO KNOW THE PRICES UP FRONT. WHAT A RIPOFF! NEVER AGAIN!

Every time we are in Helen, we eat breakfast at Hofer's. Everything here is really good. The atmosphere is great. Service is always friendly. The breakfast line is always long, but it is worth the wait. They have outdoor tables, but they don't serve any meals outside, which is one of the only negative thing about this restaurant. I wish they expand or at least utilized outdoor seating.

They have a nice set up, quaint. Good pastry selections. We got there an hour before they close so the restaurant was already closed, bakery & deli were the only ones open. There’s a sitting area up front tho.

We stopped by on our way out of town with our dog for a quick breakfast and coffee. Dogs are welcome on the patio. We got a few DELICIOUS pastries—Apple fritter, Bavarian Cream Muffin, and Cinnamon twist, and coffees. The ladies behind the counter were so kind and thoughtful. They even brought our dog some dog treats! Thank you so much for the wonderful treats and service. Can’t wait to come back!

My wife, Veronica and I ate here three times. It is hard to express how fantastic they are. The food is outstanding. The baked goods are just like a from Bavarian Bakery (I've been to Bavaria twice, and my ancestry is from there.). But more than anything else we are super impressed with the quality of the staff. The service is stellar. Everyone who waited us was super friendly, efficient, knowledgeable. IN particular, we found Andi to be outstanding. She has an amazing positive energy. Veronica and I were both very impressed with her personality and her energy. This young woman is going to go far in life.

Early breakfast group of 20 plus ppl, great service n yummy food, sweet treats after!!
