Hofer's Bakery and Cafe

Super nice service and a convenient location. I love the fact that the waitresses are dressed the part and all. Prices were average but honestly, so was the food. I ordered French toast and I was hoping the bread would be fresh and delicious but it was borderline stale.

Hubby has cheese grits and you can tell they use water in the grits and it was no seasoning. He also had the corned beef hash and eggs. He said you could tell that the hash was homemade which was good but it was nothing spectacular about it.

The food wasn’t bad, it just really wasn’t good. Our waitress was super nice and so was the front bakery staff.

All in all I think is a tourist spot, they don’t have to put much effort into taste because they aren’t really counting on repeat business.

Quaint deli, bakery, cafe, and German imported gift shop located in the heart of Helen. We came here for the bakery case full of homemade specialty desserts and Gofer's did not disappoint. The German chocolate cake was definitely our fave with a great balance of the moist chocolate cake layer with the coconut frosting. The Sacher torte, a rare specialty on its own, was very good with the soft chocolate layers, apricot jam, and ganache. The black forest cake was beautiful to behold but ai wished there was more cherry to balance out the chocolate and whipped layers.

Great family time at this 5 star establishment! Great food & service, too!

One of THE best breakfast’s we had. Walked in the bakery to a line and we the thought for a split second that maybe we could go somewhere else, we thought on a second thought, when a place has a line, food HAS to be! Sure enough we waited in line for about 25 mins. While we waited, we enjoyed looking at the pastries in the bakery and baked breads baked from the day before. Also the liquor filled chocolate and other products German food products. We ordered the Belgium waffle, Bacon and onion Hash that come with 2 eggs and shared pregel and lox. Perfection!!! Make this a must on your visit here.

Worth any bit of the wait ... its hard to pick my favorite thing we tried! The ham and cheese omlette was top 3 omlettes I've ever eaten. The fried apple situation was incredible. Porkchops, biscuits and gravy, potatoes, grits and Belgium waffles were all delicious. The French toast was another standout. Really the best meal we've had all trip!

Food was about an 8/10 but the service was great. Pretty busy but a good place for breakfast. They stop service at 10:30 and switch over for lunch.

For German food in Georgia, it doesn't get any better than this.
Limited seating inside due to the pandemic so get there early and put your name on the list.
They shut down for a transition from breakfast to lunch for a little while but the bakery inside remains open for to go items.
We have a good baseline for German food after living there for four years.
After several trips here over the years we have never been disappointed.

Drove 30 minutes to eat lunch here just to be told "no more lunch service." As I drive off theres a big sign on the front of the building that clearly says "breakfast and LUNCH" The last time I drove all the way to Hofers lunch had stopped being served at 2???? Not enough staff. Everyone uses that excuse because they don't want to cut into profits for employee wages but it is what it is. Maybe do the professional thing and take the sign down so folks don't waste their valuable time on nothing. I won't waste my time again.

The food is absolutely amazing! The staff is so friendly and inviting. The bakery is delicious! Hofers is a must stop for us when we visit Helen!
