Grassroots Kava House

Went here for the coffee, not the kava, so can't speak on behalf of that. But the vibe was awesome. Clearly a local spot, mostly everyone there, patron and employee, knew one another. Coffee was strong and got me through the rest of the day.

update:

i was sad to experience belittling from an owner (balding shorter gent with facial hair) towards me after asking an innocent question about a daily discounted special-he treated me like i was trying to swindle them through a discount. when in fact. i wanted to buy a kratom and an espresso (might as well get a 50% discount on the coffee, right?).

i asked if there would be a discount since the daily special was half off any coffee product if you purchased something at regular price. he then scoffed at me, laughed and said "you can't have the kratom for half off." i said "i'm very aware of that, i wasn't expecting you to discount the kratom."

i felt like a little kid being scolded since he assumed i meant that i wanted 50% off kratom, which was not the case. it was very offensive to me since i've probably spent more than i've cared to at this establishment.

he then proceeded to assume again by charging me for a double without asking me. for real, what the heck man!

so i paid the $14 or whatever it was and sat down quite irked.

that was the last time i went to this place since he hangs around all the time.

to top it off i've never really experienced friendly service here, so that made my decision to frequent other places much easier.

i've tried this place maybe 15 times so far-and every time i ask myself why i come here.

possible cons:
•this may break your bank
•there may be tons of pretentious people
•the music may just be horrendous
•there may be tons of smoking out front

possible pros:
•late operating hours
•convenient location
•stable wi-fi
•clean

but what do i know ;)

Great coffee. Fun place. However, the ringing of the bell every 20-30 mins is extremely annoying when trying to actually work or hangout

Good place for coffee, tea, kava, etc. I work from here at least twice a week and enjoy the atmosphere.

Lovely place to sit and work. They place good music at a nice volume so you can still hear your own thoughts. They have a variety of different beverages including fresh iced tea (they had a little herb garden on the wall that I’m assuming the mint comes from) and kombucha on top! We sat upstairs on the outdoor patio and it was a nice place to sit and observe the action on central Ave.

I go here almost everyday and the kratom and the staff are the literal best ! Very welcoming to the LGBTQ+ community and always taking very good care of customers. Thank you grassroots 🙌🏻❤️

Its worth noting that I find the upstairs floors, in particular, to be delectable. I often find myself trying to decide if eating my food in the takeout container is truly the safe choice, with a floor such as this.

Immaculate. This place is always spotless.

At this place you will meet students, business owners, professionals, cool people and eventually friends. Great coffee selection, great tea selection. Perfect place to study, work, or have meaningful conversation. And of course, kava!

Great atmosphere, the kava and kratom is awesome and so is the staff! Definitely worth checking out!
