Maude's Cafe

One of Gainesville's finest not for the coffee but for the atmosphere. A very cool space where you will see everything from hipster puppies to people with rings in places you did not know could be pierced. Further, it is a just a quick walk to all that Downtown has to offer. Remember this is a fur friendly bar. I have never seen a pur fur friend but have seen the barking kind. @ndy

Local favorite with food and fresh baked goods. Excellent coffee and teas. Seating indoors as well as outside under a shade structure, in the shadow of one of Gainesville's notable historical buildings-- the Hippodrome State Theater and Cinema.

So been going to Maude's for a while now with friends to play board games etc, coffee ofc.
Don't ask them to reheat the quiche...I waited like 12 mins. I swear they heated up a wood burning stove to do it.
I do like this place but prices can be a bit yuppie so watch your wallet (Starbucks pricing here).
Park at the Sun Center (it's free and only about 100ft from Maude's. Yes there is handicap parking and a wheel chair ramp. But the side walk around the central square is really narrow with a handrail so be prepared for that.
Great selection of board games including Settlers of Catan recently and Exploding Kittens card game is always fun.

I ordered a large raspberry mocha latte, 2 other coffees, and a muffin. When they told me the total, I thought they must have rung up a 4th coffee by accident or something. I get that a large fru-fru latte will be expensive. Maybe 6 bucks? No, this was $8.20. No wonder their menu on the board doesn't have prices on it!! The coffee was good, but nothing to justify that price. The muffin was pretty bad. Don't waste your money. Starbucks is not great and is pricey, but they are amazingly a better option on both fronts and right across the street from this place.

If you want to pay a ridiculous amount of money for poor quality coffee, this is place to be. If you want to enjoy a patio filled with cigarette smoke and the scent of bum piss, this is the place to be. If you enjoy the company of homeless people and/or obnoxious hipsters, this is the place to be.

A perfect place to hang out and study while having a quick snack! Their drinks and pastries are delicious! It's also a great place to grab a beer and have a date playing board games.

All I can say is do not eat any of their food. Coffee is all they really do. First, the waiter, Evan, discouraged my friend from ordering the lasagna by saying it would take 20 minutes. Then it took him 25 minutes to make the most horrible sandwich possible.

Because we had movie tickets, we checked on him twice, which made him mad, so when he brought out my food, he threw the dish on the table, to the point where half the sandwich fell off the plate. I confronted him about his disrespectful behavior and he then threw ME out. Yes, I did curse, but I will not take the kind of disrespect over nothing. He was just mad because we wondered why it took him 25 minutes to make a grilled cheese.

I may be old, but it will be a long cold day in hell before I take that kind of treatment without comment. Never gonna happen. Terrible place. They have a great spot, next to the Hippodrome or they would never get any business at all. Worst dining experience ever.

I really liked this place for both their coffee and their atmosphere. This morning was a very negative experience and they will no longer get my business. Online it says they open at 7 AM. I got there around 8:15 AM and no signs of anyone. I went across to Starbucks to study (much rather support the local business not chains). Around 10 finally they were setting up the patio furniture. I went back to maudes where I walked in (door was unlocked) and was told sorry were closed. Back out to the patio the male employee saw pur confision and asked what our question was. I asked why they wernt open and he replied "cuz were running behind" in a very rude manner. They have lost my business all together.

Best coffe shop in town. Great atmosphere and seating - both indoor and out. Tons of board games to borrow and play while you eat. They sell the most decadent desserts! I highly recommend Maudes to anyone in Gainesville - please help support this local business!

Stopped by and was lost right from the get go. There is no seating sign, there was no waitress to take our order and half the vegan food was out of stock. We ordered two sandwiches and a slice of cake. It took them 45mins to get us the sandwiches and they totally forgot our cake, we had to go up to the front desk and remind them. THEY HAD IT RIGHT THERE AT THE COUNTER AND WOULDNT EVEN BRING IT TO US. I had high hopes but this place blows, don't waste your time or money.
