I come here pretty often, typically in the morning after jog around Lincoln park or when I'm headed to work. Most times when I do come it feels like I am not welcomed, especially when I go inside the store vs the walk up window.

I definitely want to give kudos when due. There is one barista (multi color bob haircut) who is typically polite with me as I really enjoy when she attends to me. But unfortunately the same cannot be said about other individuals who work here. I never feel welcomed or wanted in their establishment.

Normally I go to the walk up window to order but the line was long today so I went inside instead. When I walked in , no one was in line and I was not greeted or anything. A gentlemen who works there, who I believe is the owner or manager took his time before attending to me.

After several minutes of just standing there, he finally takes my order (ice coffee w/ simple syrup) but still no greeting or anything, just "yea".

After paying for my order, as I always do, I'm standing at the register while he makes the coffee so I can grab my it and leave. Instead of politely asking me "hey can you please move to the side while I take other customer orders", he makes a repeated strong gesture with his hands for me to move to the side. Immediately when the next customer walks up can you guess what he say.... "Hey how are you? How can I help you?"

Once my coffee was ready, instead of handing it to me, they placed it on the counter in front of the other customer and gesture for me to come pick it up.

A part of me wants to believe that I'm not being mistreated because of how I look but it's hard for me not to see that, when I see others who don't look like me, treated with respect.

Unfortunately this isn't my first negative experience with them. This moment pushed me to write a review that could've been avoided. I will no longer come there.

Lovely little cafe with a small, Bodega type store. It's right across the street from Lincoln Park, on the Hill. Coffee is very good, there's seating, if not, cross the street, and hang out with the Hillies in Lincoln Park! You might see someone running away from a congressional hearing.

A Capitol Hill staple. Perfectly located, and perfectly made coffee and pastries. Newer to the neighborhood, it has been my go-to on a near, dare I say, daily basis. A must stop if you’re in the area!

High marks for cuteness and ambience. I thought the service was a little bit grumpy and the muffin and scone were basically dry and pasty to eat. Not enough blueberries! I don’t mind paying $5 for a muffin as long as it good.

Got a coffee here one morning when I was waiting for a different breakfast place to open up and I was really impressed with how well this spot fit in with the neighborhood.

If I lived in the neighborhood I'd be going here weekly for sure.

Great place to catch up with friends outside and people watch across the street from Lincoln park!

Fantastic neighborhood place and I’m constantly discovering new things they sell. All coffee drinks are great and never had a bad experience. They have no days closed which is wild ! It truly seems like they are ALWAYS open. I hope their staff gets some breaks because they are great. They have an outdoor window so you can walk up with a dog or stroller really easily and then a small inside that’s chock full of wine, baked goods, speciality dips and cheeses, sandwiches etc (all pretty expensive but normal for dc - $12ish sandwiches).

What a great little cafe and bodega! The sandwiches are on crusty baguettes. The roast beef and the prosciutto are both very good. Must have a coffee and sit on their very cute patio area. Dog friendly!

Great cappuccino. Actually hot instead of lukewarm.

This charming little cafe makes me smile every time I come here (which is as often as I can!). The outdoor seating has the perfect ambience, and the sandwiches are excellent. They’re not your ordinary sandwiches, either - there’s something unique about each combination and I’ve never had one that I didn’t enjoy. No walk around Capitol Hill/Lincoln Park can be complete without a visit here!

Love this place but have one problem. The sandwiches don’t tell you what’s in them and their names don’t tell you what’s in them either. For people with food allergies or who are picky eaters, this makes it impossible to choose the right sandwich. I have wanted to try their sandwiches for a while but refuse to blindly pick a sandwich because I can’t eat fish, and have a number of food dislikes due to texture and or flavor. I hope they start putting ingredients on their sandwiches.
