COFFEE LAB was underwhelming through and through—ironically all in stark contrast to our beautiful surroundings.

Let me begin by saying I hate to come across as rude. I pride myself on fairness and honesty in review. If COFFEE LAB had received a healthy amount of honesty in reviews by now, I’d maybe not have felt the moral duty to speak up. However, a near-perfect rating does not feel honest.

By coffee shop standards, COFFEE LAB severely underperforms.

Now, I’m no interior designer, but I felt as though I was smack dab in my grandmother’s living room again—drinking my grandfather’s coffee to match.

The aforementioned coffee (which is actually specialty-grade) from First Ascent is being severely under-utilized. Drip coffee (and espresso) were all pre-ground. Adding insult to injury, the drip coffee was actually being brewed in a small Mr. Coffee style pot in the corner. Truly, the whole shop was a mess behind the counter and in our clear view.

Why buy 3rd wave coffee from a local roaster only to brew it worse than most would at home? Why proudly display store-bought tea bags we could brew at home? Why do the same with artificial Torani and Monin brand syrups?

A shop that appears to initially present (in name and score) as quality is actually far from it. The coffee was not good. Surely coffee from a “lab” would have a certain level of preciseness or a careful approach.

To take my coffee preferences out of it, there were very clear moments of improper training with the Square POS system, which led to some rather awkward delays and confusion.

Also, nobody in my party received a straw or lid, which I normally would not care about. . . however, our milk was severely over-steamed and as a result, WAY TOO HOT. A spill in mistake may have resulted in real serious burns.

I cannot recommend COFFEE LAB when comparing to other coffee shops I have been to. I can recommend it as a unique experience and I look forward to seeing what changes (if any) are made to live up to its name.

Charming little coffee spot in secluded, beautiful Gothic, Colorado (with wifi, even!).

Coffee wasn’t good. Felt a far cry from the image it wanted to evoke with a name like “COFFEE LAB”. No real precision or scientific approach to ensure excellence in product.

Coffee lab was not open when I visited. But looks like a cool place!

Excellent coffee shop, so high in the Rockies! They use First Ascent beans which are roasted in Crested Butte. Owner is skilled at making first class espresso drinks. They have cold brew and other offerings. Donuts and scones for a nice accompanying snack.

Awesome coffee and espresso drinks (best nitro cold brew) and the owner, Dewey, is a wonderful Jeep/mountain guide. The scenic views he took us to both days were out of this world. Climbing Cinnamon Mountain was an amazing experience I will never forget. Will definitely be going back to Coffee Lab RMBL!

One of the best coffee shops I've ever been to. The view of the mountain and wildflowers while you sip on a cappuccino <3.
