I really enjoy this philz. Its relaxing when i want to get some work in. Pre covid it was popular for students. The main work cafe competition here was blu bottle, but when youre in the mood for avocado toast and iced mint mojito. Theres no where else but philz. It can get crowded pre covid depending on the day however so if you want a more chill vibe go to the open courtyard of blu bottle

Line was confusing. Barista's were not organized so customers knew where their order was. Cash register was in a different location. I see now what you're trying to do but confusion happens to new customers. Coffee was pretty standard. Little texture or flavour like Illy in Europe or Hong Kong.

Philz takes a very interesting approach to coffee. Instead of the traditional coffee shop where you wait in line to order then a barista makes the drink according to your preferences at Philz coffee is a bit more personalized. You give your order directly to one of a couple of baristas who then they ask you about how you would like your order for example sweet, medium, or rich. You also taste the coffee once it is done and the barista offers to make adjustments if its not to your liking. The whole experience is very personalized which is great and results in coffee perfectly made to your tastes. The coffee itself is fantastic quality and I love the many different flavors available.

I'm just not on board with the whole business model.. I just paid $5 for a tall pour over.. That's espresso machine prices for regular coffee.... nope

Philz never disappoints and this location is no exception. It also has a lot more seating including a comfy leather couch! Same great Philz experience, with great seating and all of the amenities of University Ave, I can't think of anything missing!

Can be confusing your first time there, but don't worry! There's a line forming from the south door for coffee. Wait for a barista to call the next person, then you can discuss what you're looking for. They are all knowledgeable so you don't have to bark out your order and get out of the way; just tell them what coffee you like! After ordering, head to the cashier line (which is also food line).
The food line is near the east door and you can skip the coffee line if you only want food. They have pastries, bagels, avo toast, and other things that pair well with coffee.

The idea of a new coffee shop that doesn't do espresso seemed crazy to me. After I tried the mint mojito coffee, I understood. While I haven't switched back to drip as my first choice, every once in a while I have to have one of their crazy concoctions.

I love Philz coffe. For those of you not in the know: Philz Coffee serves pour-over coffee, focusing on coffee beans that display unique characteristics. There are over 20 flavor profiles with all the flavor coming from the bean, no additives.
This is the Philz coffee I visit second most. The line here is usually short except in the morning when it is CRAZY long. The staff can be a little colder here than other locations but they are the fastest. Parking can be a bit tricky too - stupid Palo Alto

I really appreciate the selection of roasts and I think they do a great job with their pour-overs. It's a local place that's been around for ages, and I imagine that's why their queueing system is so terrible. Once you get used to it, it's not so bad.

Expect a line out the door, but there's a reason: it's the best spot around. Great coffee (caffeine content through the roof), great baristas, and a pretty solid ambience all add up to a win for regulars and newbies alike.
