Never had a chop cheese...what can I say was very good worth the 20-30min wait. You know something Is good when you're not hungry but you want another one. That being said never had a chopped cheese from New York.
The meat is crispy the bread is crunchy on the outside soft on the inside. Some hot sauce would of put it over the top but was good just how it came.
I've shopped at this Bodega for the few years that it's been open, after tonight's poor customer service or lack there of I'll never shop at DTLA Bodega ever again.
A friend of mine ordered two of DTLA Bodega's overpriced sandwiches, the cashier informed us that both sandwiches would be placed in a large bag separately. Per usual there was a 15 min wait.
After waiting 20 mins in font of the Bodega the cashier preceded to hand over a bag with only one sandwich. He then informs me that if we wanted to our other Sandwich, we'd have to wait another 15-20 mins and be charged for the sandwich he failed to enter.
Keep in mind the cashier was aware that we ordered two sandwiches, but never informed us as we waited outside for them of his mistake. My friend was visibly upset because our that time was wasted, and one of us would have to go without food.
I spoke to the cashier politely to inform him that in "the future the "moment you find out that you made a mistake inform the customer so they don't have to wait for a inaccurate order" but was met with an excuse of "just finding out", in reality he didn't just find out... he actual took the time to bag one sandwich and was focused intensely on stapling and receipt to a plastic bag fully prepare to hand over an inaccurate order(as I inquired about picking up our order of two sandwiches). The cashier also had his fellow cashier willing to support piss poor customer service, who sated that our time was of no value to them.
I do not recommend being a patron of DTLA Bodega because of the two employees on tonight shift, who lack customer service, and are willing to waste peoples time, all because they don't want to be at work.
I absolutely love this place it’s so convenient in so many ways. I am a local and whenever I need anything I can count on them to have it last minute. Not to mention the amazing food they have 10/10 I will definitely recommend!
I was skeptical of the Bodega at first, but they legit have some amazing sandwiches. Most of the time. Obviously it’s a rough neighborhood, so I’m very grateful to have a late night spot for sandwiches. The store can be rough as well, like the time I helped prevent a physical fight between the couple inside while the worker picked up the phone to call police.
It was getting late one night a friend and I picked up sandwiches. He got his usual: chopped cheese. I stepped out of my usual Ariel to try The Alan, a steamed brisket sandwich. There was no steamed brisket. There were hard, burnt crunchy pieces that used to be brisket. The bread was equally hard and very dry, so I ate only half the sandwich. By the time I got to eat, the shop was closed, so I couldn’t ask for a replacement.
Next day, during a very busy work day, I wanted to eat the other half of my $25 sandwich. I thought if I added some moisture & microwaved it, it would help. It was worse. Inedible. During a break at work, I went back to the Bodega to ask for an exchange sandwich (not even a refund). Guy working says he’s new & can’t help, but in about an hour someone else would be there who could help.
So, I order my sandwich, pay for it with cash, and get back to work. Come back 30 mins later to pick up my sandwich…that I paid for…it wasn’t done. They forgot or gave it to someone else.
While I appreciate the apology, this does nothing to make up for the inconvenience of having no food to eat for an hour+ after ordering. So I leave again, come back again to pick up my sandwich.
The staff I was told could help me was there. I left a note with the dry “sandwich” explaining the situation. Asked again for a refund. Was dismissed.
If the sandwiches were perfect, the terrible customer service could easily be ignored. Terrible food and terrible service??
$18 for a chopped cheese is crazy!! As a fellow New Yorker I feel kind of disrespected knowing that a Sandwich that’s only $6 in NYC where it originated, is being sold for 3x the price across the country. Disappointing.
Good food good service friendly staff reasonable prices I highly recommend it if you’re in the downtown area and you need a snack or smoke very cool people I highly recommend them just try it for yourself
Used to be one of my favorite quick places to eat but the quality has really taken huge dip lately while the prices have gone up overnight. Please get it together!
I've been living in downtown LA for a year and decided to pick up some grub. I choose the "Ariel" tuna sub and I really enjoyed it! " The sandwich was large and the bread was delicious! Good service also!
If you’re in the mood for a good sandwich, look no further. This place makes a mean sandwich. I usually go for the ronelle because I love a good chicken pesto sandwich, and this place truly exceeded my expectations, keep in mind we’re talking about a sandwich. The sandwiches here are phenomenal, I’ve only had one sandwich from this place and I really don’t feel the need to try anything else because the one sandwich I get just satisfies me every time. The amount of protein they put in the sandwich is very generous, it’s definitely not a skimped amount which is important. For the price you pay you really get your money’s worth and the quality is exceptional. The bread is nice and soft as well, not hard and crumby, well at least for the sandwich I get which comes on ciabatta. I tried getting a salad once and it was disappointing, well at least the sandwiches aren’t disappointing. Another great perk is that this place is 24hrs, but be aware that the later you order from this place in the night, the more the quality tends to go down. I’ve ordered from here around 3 am and it was a little sloppy, nonetheless the flavor was still there, and I’m not gonna complain about a place that’s making my food at 3am, this place still gets the five stars it deserves. The last time I ordered from here my sandwich arrived picture perfect, I should have taken a picture but it looked so appetizing I inhaled it all before even thinking about taking a picture. Anyway yeah great sandwich!!! 5 stars for the sandwich zero stars for the salad. Come here for the sandwich. My recommendation is for the ronelle if you’re a fan of a chicken pesto sandwich.

Paid over $40 for one edible sandwich.

Sandwiches. Had their spicy tuna avocado sandwich last night, and sometimes I wanna phone it. Memories are what we truly hold onto.
