Café Carmel

It was a nice little shop inside. Very busy considering the times we are in. The staff is quick and helpful. We only went in for some of their cold brew that comes out of the draft, but it had a good flavor and perfect for this sudden heat wave we were having.

The best desserts in Carmel, freshly home-made, very generous portions, easily serve 2. excellent Cappuccinos, the Tiramisu actually has alcohol and the cheesecake is outstanding with a thin creamy chocolate ganache. Friendly service, low key atmosphere and even ice cream.

We stopped by when it was closed but loved the look and location. We will definitely come back and try the food. Based on the looks and area it will be 5 stars until we get to eat there.

This place stuck with me after going there a year ago for a delicious lunch and yummy pasties and coffee on several mornings.

So, this year when planning a 60th birthday celebration for someone from afar- I called to see if a cake could be made and delivered to the dinner site. Fay was amazingly helpful and accommodating. And then she delivered what was told to me by all 10 guests, the absolutely most delicious chocolate cake they had ever eaten.
So this place gets all 5 stars and then some for great food, comfortable neighborhoody atmosphere, and above and beyond kind service. Don’t miss it on your next trip to Carmel by the Sea.

Tastes as good as it looks 🙂

Hmm. Five stars for the food, but one or two for speed and service.

The woman behind the counter was new and struggled to take our order. Our sandwich choices (type of bread, cheese variety) took multiple attempts to land. Despite specifying I wanted the chicken Caesar salad twice I ended up getting the chicken-less version. To their credit they took it back and added chicken for no extra charge, for which I was grateful.

Speed of delivery was extremely disappointing. Our first item, a meatball sandwich, arrived twenty minutes after ordering. My son had finished it by the time the second item, my chicken-less Caesar salad arrived.

While returning my Caesar salad for chicken'ing I noticed that my wife's soup (to go with her sandwich) had been put into a bowl and was going cold while the sandwich was being prepared. When my wife and daughter's soup and sandwich arrived, five minutes later, the soup was tepid.

Make no mistake, the sandwich was delicious, as was my Caesar salad; but the experience was tarnished by the thirty minute wait from order to completion, and the resulting cold soup.

Good coffee, great tea. Great location and decor. Prices are high but it's Carmel so I guess relatively they are normal. Pastries we're ok didn't seem to be fresh but maybe I just was in on an off day.

The girl JENNA who works here is the true definition of a disgruntled employee. She is also very passive aggressive and she needs an attitude adjustment. So we ordered a scoop of ice cream in a waffle cone but the scoop was a half scoop that was just floating in the middle of the cone where the ice cream didnt touch the bottom or top of the cone. Then after we asked nicely for a fair scoop, JENNA gave us another scoop then threw the ice cream cone back at us and SLAMMED the ice cream door in our face. Bad vibes and horrible customer service here. Especially Jenna she needs to be trained on customer service.

They shut the grill down 1 hr 15 min before closing even though it said “sandwiches all day”. Milkshake was not bad. Free cookies at the hotel were better than their chocolate chip cookie.
