Cafe Smitten

Very cool atmosphere, friendly staff and great coffee. They are right by my office so I stop by from time to time, usually for a basic cup of coffee. It wasn't until recently that I tried their version of an "Affogato" which is espresso tradionally served with gelato (in their case, vanilla ice cream). Blew my socks off at how something so simple can taste so good! I'll definitely be getting more of these in the near future.

Very chic and hipster little spot to come for coffee. They have an indoor and a back patio area. Live music on particular nights.
I've gone on a saturday morning which was particilarly busy and a on a Friday night before they closed.
Enjoyed both trips. Very kind service.

Good place, but to go off topic to prove my complaint, I just recently purchased the 2nd Generation AirPods Pro that has an impeccable noise cancellation option. Sitting on the patio of Cafe Smitten, I like to listen to music, but in between songs I can still hear the BLARING music from the speakers of this establishment (this is when I have my noise cancellation activated on the AirPods). I’ve spoken to many friends who frequent this establishment and feel the same way. Music is cringeworthy as well, there will be days where awful house music will be playing to early mid-2000’s butt rock (Krazytown). I only ask to turn it down for the sake of people conversing with one another.

This is the coffee shop you look for when you are trying to find a place to put on your instagram. I did forget to bring my air pods, which made me feel out of place. People won’t believe you are in Bakersfield when you take selfies of you and your cold brew. I checked in here and my IG blew up with 100 emoji. 🙏

The place is large and lots of good seating. The service is quick and excellent.

Such a lovely spot in downtown Bakersfield. I was pleasantly surprised by the food - the schnitzel sandwich and blackberry mimosa are must-tries!

Rating Cafe Smitten based on the things I personally enjoy.
Cappuccino: 10/10 will always get if I come here.
Matcha: meh, would rather make myself at home.
Food: overpriced for what you get. If you want something comparable to what they offer here but with better taste, go to Sonder.
Ambiance: Very chill, a nice place to hang out and catch up with people, some even come here to read or study.

Cafe Smitten definitely has the best latte art in town, but isn't one of my go to places.

I have been traveling across the country for several weeks starting on the East coast, stopping at many a cafe along the way- and this is my favorite coffee spot I’ve discovered so far. Friendly staff, great atmosphere, fantastic coffee and a delightful menu of inventive foods to include any dietary restriction. Along with a beer and wine selection, this is the perfect travel stop or brunch destination.
