Had the cod fish and chips. Fish was excellent. Unfortunately the fries left a lot to be desired. Fresh cut ones should be served with such great fish. Wife had seafood chowder and rated it ok. But was crazy about the spotted shrimp peel and eat shrimp. I would gladly drive down on a regular basis for the Fish and chips if they can kick up the fries a notch or two.
The food was great here, nice big chunks of fish in the chowder and fat pieces of halibut for fish and chips. The onion rings were amazing! The service was fantastic, definitely a place to check out if you're in the area.
This seems to be a family run seafood shack with great character, great people, and great food. Prices are pretty on par with what is to be expected in Alaska. I enjoyed the fried halibut and fries while sitting on a back patio that overlooks the marina.
Be sure to check out some of the family photos on the wall. You might get to hear the story behind a few!
Decided I had to try Varley's Swiftwater Seafood after hearing rave reviews on YouTube. After ordering at the counter, the server brought our meal to the dining area. The half shrimp and half halibut basket was delicious. Prices seemed decent ($23.99 for the basket) for a tourist destination a a cruise ship stop. Plan to visit again on my next visit to Whittier.
Visited few weeks ago following a recommendation on youtube. Absolutely not at all value for money. Paid some $28+ for a seafood entree. I was served 85% fries and 15% sea food ( 6 small fried shrimps and 2 small cubes of halibut fried). Felt like a tourist trap.
A small hole-in-the-wall that looked like a local favorite. Saw more people stop by for take-out than came in to sit, but we enjoyed the harbor view. The fish 'n chips and shrimp basket were served in a plastic basket with paper lining. Great batter, good oil used on french fries. Nothing fancy, but a tasty, quick meal with quaint, local flare.
We walked in at the end of a long day and got a great table out on the porch. We had AMAZING halibut and chips while watching the boats come in. All of the staff was very friendly and accommodating!!
Wow the Halibut was wonderful and the cheeseburgers were great the kids ate it all with lots of fries. We also tried the Crabcakes with large orders to split it was marvelous and the service was excellent
Loved this place. The service was fantastic and it felt like we were family! They have some huge yummy shakes my kids loved and the fish and chips are amazing! Definelty stop in for a yummy meal and a place to relax too.

Halibut was fresh as advised. Cornmeal style breading and thin pieces. McDonald's style fries with no salt.
Not bad, but not impressed.
Price was good for Alaska.
