We had the personal pizzas and they were good.

Stopped here on our drive through Alabama for a light lunch. The Vintage Cuban was bursting with flavor and the Pesto Chicken Salad was tender and rich. Definitely recommend the 3mile detour from I-59!

At the recommendation of our server, I tried the roasted red pepper and Gouda soup and it was fantastic. My wife ordered the french dip and I got the Cuban, we both really enjoyed our sandwichs. We were also pleasantly surprised buy the portions of meat on each sandwich. Will definitely return next time we are in Fort Payne.

It is a small space but the food is good and the staff is friendly. They had some live music when I was there too.

Three of us went for dinner last Saturday night, an unusually busy night. There were only two servers/bartenders working the entire floor and to their credit doing the best they could. Reservations could not be honored, we waited an hour for our food only to be told they were out of what we ordered with limited other choices. Love to know where the owner(s) was to help out these poor girls. We tipped them well even though we didn’t get to eat. We left and went to Jefferson’s who had plenty of food and staff!! Very poor experience!!

Based on the rave reviews and great-looking website, before leaving Nashville we made the decision to stop at the 1889 Cafe. I now wish we had kept driving. Three very hungry people walked in and $163 later three very disgusted people walked out. First, they did not have the beers and ciders that were shown on the website. Second, one other diner and I both ordered baked potatoes and the server came back to the table later to tell us that they were out. You need to know what you have in the kitchen that you can serve before you show up at my table and who the heck runs out of baked potatoes on a Saturday evening at 6? Third, we were told we had a choice of one side with our entree and we find out later in the meal that we should have been offered two sides with our entree. Neither steak was prepared as requested and I could have trimmed the gristle out of mine to use for a new boot lace. The third diner had chicken which was good but it came with a side of mac and cheese pasta that was still crunchy. I have made two trips here now, my first and last.

Ordered the shrimp and grits... grits were not cooked throughly, tasso gravy was like a thin broth and the tasso itself was absent.
Service was good and our waitress was wonderful.

The burgers were great! Our first time eating there and the power went off. We enjoyed our meal in the dark. Everyone made the best of it and the band sang anyway 🙂
